Brunswick Studio Policies
Updated 2/2023
Attendance: Students are expected to attend their regular lessons each week. If you are unable to attend I require 24 hours’ notice except in the event of emergency. If you fail to give appropriate notice for your absence I reserve the right to charge for the lesson.
Illness: If you are sick, stay home! Many people visit my studio each week and illness spreads quickly. Please be considerate of me and your fellow students.
Billing: My Brunswick rate is $25 per half hour. An invoice is emailed to each family at the beginning of the month. Payment is due for the entire month at the first lesson of the month. If you are absent with appropriate notice, I will credit any balance towards the following month’s invoice. Prompt payment is required. I reserve the right to suspend or discontinue lessons for nonpayment.
Recording: You are encouraged to record your lesson.
Parents of Minors: While parents are welcome to sit in on lessons, sometimes students find it easier to focus in a one-on-one learning environment and I generally request that parents wait elsewhere. If you drop your child off and leave, please return on time so your child can be picked up.
Holding Spots: I cannot indefinitely hold unattended spots for students who are absent for multiple weeks. If you are unable to attend your lesson because of a conflict like a show or a team, I may temporarily fill that spot with another student from my waiting list. I will do my best to keep that spot for you, but your best bet is to attend lessons consistently! Please communicate regularly with me about your absences and commitments.
Recital: I hold an annual recital to give students the chance to perform the things we’ve worked on. I charge a $50 recital fee for all performers. This covers accompanists, programs, sheet music and other expenses. The recital fee must be paid in order for a student to perform.
Dogs: I have a dog! She is very friendly and delighted to have students in her home. After greeting you she will (generally) behave and not distract from the lesson. However, if you are allergic or afraid of dogs you might want to consider taking lessons through the Baldwin Wallace studio.
Arrival: If I am teaching another student when you arrive for your lesson, please just come inside and wait for your start time. Knocking and ringing the doorbell are distracting and interrupt the lesson before yours.
Diversity and Inclusion: All students are welcome in my home and should feel safe, respected and valued while they are there. I do not tolerate bullying or harassment, or the use of any jokes, phrases or terms that denigrate groups of people or individuals. Please be respectful and treat others as you wish to be treated.
Termination: Students may terminate lessons at any time, but notice is appreciated. If a student has a balance remaining after they terminate, that amount will be refunded. Any outstanding balances are required to be paid. I also reserve the right to terminate lessons with a student at any time.
Baldwin Wallace: These policies are only effective for my Brunswick studio. Baldwin Wallace students must follow the BW Community Arts School policies, which can be viewed at https://www.bw.edu/community-music-school/policies/.
